Orthodontic problems can affect anyone – in fact, our teeth are almost never naturally perfect. Malocclusion, or a “bad bite”, can cause problems with chewing, oral hygiene, speaking and aesthetics. Here are some examples of the most common orthodontic problems.

An overjet is when the upper front teeth protrude outward.

An excess of space for your teeth which results in gaps between your teeth. This generally occurs when the teeth are smaller than the available space.

The lack of space for all the teeth to fit normally within the jaws. The teeth may be twisted or displaced. It occurs when there is disharmony in the tooth to jaw size relationship, or when the teeth are larger than the available space.

A type of malocclusion, or a misalignment of teeth, where upper teeth fit inside of lower teeth.

A malocclusion (bite problem) where the top teeth and bottom teeth do not come together or bite in the correct position.

A malocclusion in which the upper front teeth excessively overlap the bottom front teeth when back teeth are closed.

Excessive horizontal overlap between top and bottom front teeth.

Lower front teeth that sit in front of upper front teeth.

Flat, round or sharply angled and polished surfaces on the occlusal or incisal areas of the teeth and may be the result of excessive attrition of one tooth against the other.

Mainly the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth.
